Recalling an European farmhouse, a continuous shelf unifies the South and East walls, intersecting the window and vent hood. Custom cabinetry completes the frame for the painterly natural stone surface of Italian marble. The carefully considered proportions of the East window and door apertures allow maximum visibility to the yard. The completion of the backyard is currently underway.

In response to the practical needs of an adventurous client, this design rethinks the  volumes and forms of a typical urban garage and backyard. The plan, generated by overlaying a 5’ x 9’ grid onto the site, is contrasted with an undulating roof line and a sinuous gravel river. Two solid masses extruded from the grid create secure storage; a floating bridge connects a rear deck at the house to a privacy gate at the all.ey
