Richmond street, 2020

A complete renovation of a 700 sq ft unit for two architects. Custom millwork in white oak created a unique sleeping den with sliding screens, hidden storage and pivoting doors.

Annex EAGLES nest, 2019

A micro apartment expanded the third storey of an architect’s existing home. Interior ceiling and walls were clad in white-washed white pine that flowed to the exterior. The inverted cantilever detail that made this transition possible was designed by the owner himself.

Janet MacPherson : A Canadian Beastiary, 2017

For this solo exhibition at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, we worked intimately with the artist to realize her hybrid land of humans, animals and landscape. In response to each of the four works, we designed and fabricated the stylized exhibitry that define the gallery environments. The exhibition wordmark and graphics were created in collaboration with graphic designer D.Sforza.

PARKDALE CARPORT AND HARDSCAPE, 2020

A 20’ x 20’ carport was supported with helical piles and a re-purposed interlock floor, eliminating the need for new concrete footings and slab. Innovative use of materials complemented the structure. A minimal, poured in place concrete path re-defined areas for new plantings.

CO OWNED DUPLEX IN BLOORDALE, 2016

Conversion of a typical Toronto Victorian house into a dwelling for two families. New underpinning, and a rear addition with an accordion door allow light into the double height kitchen and living area of the lower unit.

Who we are

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2011, North Arrow began as the founders’ vision of an experimental design/build studio. For over 10 years, we’ve been working with local architects, craftspeople, and tradespeople to realize the vision of forward-thinking clients across the city. Historically, we’ve pushed our limits with projects ranging from institutional (Ryerson University, Harbourfront Center) to exhibition design (Aga Khan Museum & Gardiner Museum), and residential spaces, testing boundaries with both interior and exterior construction.

North Arrow is entering a new phase in our growth. We are pivoting from design/build to focus on construction. We’re taking what we do best: interpreting our client’s needs with their vision, collaborating with designers and architects, and executing thoughtful, creative, and considerate details across projects. We are positioned to take on infill and laneway projects, clever small-scale solutions, ambitious architectural experiments and other challenges unique to Toronto.
